Type Locality and Naming

By Baysun village, Baysun depression. Yu.R. Smolnikov et al., 1971f. “-Neog” suffix added to distinguish from the Baysun-Jur of SW Gissar region.

Synonym: Baysunskaya Formation, Байсунская св., Baisun Fm


Lithology and Thickness

Gray, brownish-brown, orange sandstones, subordinate siltstone (aleurolites) and clays.

Lower contact

Overlies the Gadjak Fm with erosion

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Kofrun-Neog Fm

Yu.R. Smolnikov et al. (1971f), G.Yu. Alferov et al. (61) date the suite to the middle Miocene. B.I. Pinhasov refers it to the upper Miocene-lower Pliocene and considers it an age equivalent of the Aksu Fm of Ferghana.
